King Milindu continued with his 5th question.

Venerable Sir, It is said that the great king ‘Sivi’ donated his eyes to a blind beggar and the king obtained divine eyes in return. How so?

Dear King, the great king Sivi donated his eyes to God Shakra, who came in disguise as a blind beggar and requested for them, with generosity wishing for Buddha Hood. The king dwelled in happiness thinking about his great sacrifice for days.

King Milindu continued with his fourth special question…………..

4)  Venerable Sir, there are eight occurrences which cause the Earth to tremble (vibrate). They are, the powerful atmospheric disturbances; the development of intense concentration to a boundless degree on the liquid element by a powerful ascetic or a deva; conceiving, birth, attaining enlightenment, preaching & spreading Dhamma, renouncing the will to live on, and finally attaining Parinirvana, of a Buddha. If so, why did the Earth tremble seven times when King Wessanthara gave away his worldly possessions like the Royalty, wife and the children?

King Milindu wanted to verify some facts regarding Buddha & his teachings. He asked Arahanth Nagasena 77 special questions for this reason.

1)      Venerable Sir, is there a use in paying homage to the departed Buddha?

Dear King, our Great Buddha attained Enlightenment eliminating all defilements under the Bodhi tree and achieved Nirvana after death. It is true that such a person wouldn’t accept reverence.

King Milindu went on to ask his next set of questions…

Venerable Sir, you say that even a man who had done lot of killings would go to heaven if he recalls the qualities of Buddha at his death bed. How could such a thing happen?

Dear King, recalling the qualities of Buddha is a powerful meditation. Consider a ship which glides on water despite having being loaded with any amount of weight.
